Waltham Forest has after consultation and cabinet approval decided to go ahead with licensing all private let properties as of 24th June 2014.

What does this mean for you as a landlord?

Well from 1st January 2015 you will need to apply to the council to license you property at a discounted fee which would raise from 1st April 2015. No fees have been set as yet. But looking at Newham Council and Barking & Dagenham Council it will most likely be between £150 and £200 for an early fee and approx. £500 for anything after April 2015. This fee is for each property so if you have more than one property then you will need to license each at a cost of what ever the fees is.

It will become law from 1st April 2015 which means that if your property is not licensed then you could be fined upto £20,000.
